Some Random photos
I have no idea if I am going to do this right, but here are some random photos from my trip. Two from Go Ape, one from the Wellcome Trust Exhibit, and one from the airplane (I think you can figure out which is which).

What happened to spring???
It was Spring in Toronto for a few days this week - it is now -12C and grey! I think that Mother Nature is toying with us.

I got an email from Air Canada that they had a seat sale to London - I was tempted by the thought of a last minute Gather. The fact that I have plans for tonight (a really good friend is defending her PhD today, so we are celebrating), am working Saturday (at the store), am giving a lecture on Monday (CF seminar), and on a search committee for which we have candidates in town today, Monday, and Tuesday) quickly put paid to that idea. So instead, I shall sit here and sulk. Okay, I'll actually wish good tidings on those that are at the Gather and I hope you all have a lovely time.

Speaking of Air Canada - they apparently hate me. I've booked a trip to Hawaii in December to visit a friend (the one defending her PhD today). Flights go Toronto-Vancouver-Honolulu and back. So far, the Honolulu-Vancouver portion has been cancelled. It was the second half of a Sydney-Honolulu-Vancouver flight. The day I was supposed to take it is the first day that the Sydney-Vancouver flight becomes a direct flight. Great for people going to/from Australia, but couldn't they have delayed it by a day! No big deal, there are other flights between Honolulu and Vancouver so I changed it. Now, I see that the Vancouver-Toronto flight has been cancelled! It looks like they cancelled my flight and added a continuation of the Sydney-Vancouver flight (so it is now Sydney-Vancouver-Toronto). Not a huge deal as there are numerous Vancouver-Toronto flights, so I will just get switched (maybe to the last half of the Sydney-Vancouver-Toronto flight). I just find it funny that two of my four flights have been cancelled. Well, there are 8+ months before I go - let's see how many more that they can cancel.

Went to see STOMP last night. It was really good - even the little Frodo like guy who everyone else was mean to!

I have the plague and a bubonic postule
Umm, okay so it probably isn't actually the plague.

I still haven't heard back from my MD about the tests she ran post ER visit, but I did speak to a colleage who does GI stuff. He said it sound like it was a Yersinia enterocolitica infection. This would be good, since it is self-limiting, unlike the pancreatisis which had been the current running favourite. Apparently Yersiniosis can cause pseudo-Appendicitis. Why no one thought of this during the 7 hours I spent in the ER, I shall never now. It doesn't explain the blood results, but I'm going with false positive (either that or my pancreas knew that Blago was going to try to kill me with Bulgarian alcohol so it pumped out extra stuff in preparation). Yersinia Pestis is what caused the plague, so my friend's and I are calling this infection the plague - which sounds way cooler than Yersiniosis.

Oh and the bubonic pustule is likely a canker sore on the roof of my mouth - again, bubonic pustule sounds way cooler.

Book Meme (from [info]morganmuffle and [info]katie__pillar among others)

1. grab the nearest book.

2. open the book to page 123.

3. find the fifth sentence.

4. post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.

5. don’t you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! just pick up whatever is closest.

"Our interest in spuriousness comes in a roundabout fashion: We wish to eliminate spuriousness as an alternative explanation for an empirical association that we would like to interpret as a relationship. From this perspective, the analysis of spuriousness can be seen as establishing the internal validity of the focal relationship by default: The relatedness component of the total association is the covariation remaining after the spurious component is removed. The more strenuous the test of spuriousness, the greater our confidence in the inference of the relatedness.

Feel free to guess the book - though I'm guessing most people wont ;).

And I know that you don't capitalise the word after a colon - the authors don't seem to know that though.

I am melting!! It is VERY hot in Toronto and I have to do hill training tonight. At least the hill we use is very shady.

Dungeon Game
How, exactly, does the game work? I've been aimlessly wandering around Nell's dungeon - it keeps asking me to attack people I like (including myself!!).

Back from Seattle
The conference was good, Seattle is a great city, and I met up with Kathy_S - all in all a good time.

Back to the grindstone here.

I've noticed that some of my symptoms seems to have cleared up a bit - maybe the GF/DF thing is working!!

Off to check out the Dungeon Game.

I'm am almost broken
My shin has been bothering me for a while - I have been actively ignoring it. Given that marathon training is starting, I decided to stop ignoring it. It isn't a stress fracture - yet! However, there is bone stress and I have to be careful when running (apparently the correct answer to pain while running is not to keep running and hope that the pain will go away).

Also, I still hate the whole GF/DF/no nightshade thing and seem to be having a flare such that all my joints hurt. I am not a happy camper. The 6km run tonight could be fun. Yes, I know that I said that I had to take it easy, but I did skip the run last night and didn't run with my friend this morning - so I am taking it easy.

The search for non milk milk
The current leader is almond milk, while I don't think that I could drink a glass of it, it isn't bad and will work on cereal.

Silk brand is a no go - ugh!

So Nice (had it on my cereal this morning) isn't bad, but not as good as almond milk. The cereal itself (flax something or other) was bad either and stayed very crunchy in the 'milk' (much more so than normal cereal). With a bunch of fruit on top it made a good breakfast.

Of course, I forgot my lunch so will now have to figure out what I can buy. I know salad is good, but I'm more hungry than that. Hmm...I could probably find something at the Thai place (though they seem to really like soya sauce).

It isn't paranoria if the CBB really is out to get you
Umm...okay so 30 seconds after I post that, the CBB lets me post just fine. It is out to make me look silly, I know it!!!
8:54 am
Someone doesn't like me.
The CBB hates me - I can read the messages, but cannot write any!! It opens up the 'reply' book, but won't actually let me add anything to it.

Why oh why!!

I was smited yesterday too. It was sunny all day. I had my 6km run with my running group. It started to lightly rain as we started running. By the mid-point, I am fairly sure that I saw Noah building his ark. It stopped raining as we reached 6km. Smite, I tell you, smite!

And I cannot figure out what to eat for breakfast as I still haven't bought non-dairy milk to go with my weird cereal.

Oh, woe is me.

The CBB hates me
Like many others, I am without the CBB.

However, I do have my own very ticket airplane ticket to come to the SG!!!! Very excited, since it is also designed to allow me to foist myself onto Kathy and Patmac and do the "Swallows and Amazons" tour.

Very excited and bouncy.

I hate exams
Well, I should be using this time for last minute studying, but I think it is too late. I have a final exam in a few hours that I am terrified of - it is a weird (and not so organised course), so it'll either be fine or I'll fail!

Finally Remembered This!
Okay, so I'm not so much good at updating!

My birthday was good - though it has only been celebrated in bits and pieces (i.e. dinner with friend on Saturday, having worked in the store all day; lunch with my aunt and uncle; and dinner with my brother, who was in town from New York). My dad is away, so we'll do the family thing later.

Have to go invigilate an exam - lets hope that they don't need to ask any questions!

How does this work?
Okay, so I have no idea what I'm doing or why I'm doing it. But, so be it. This is a completely lame entry but...
